Aquifer - New Book for 2009

As an exercise in bringing more spontaneity into my studio, my first book of the new year, Aquifer, is now complete. This unique accordion book is made from lithographs hand-painted with watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and carborundum. Text tip-ins are ink jet printed on handmade Japanese Gampi made by the artist in the nagashizuki method. More handmade paper, an abaca blend with subtle metallic pigment, has been used for the cover.

Upcoming Residency through Appel Farm

This spring I have been invited to be the Artist-In-Residence at Vineland High School in Vineland, NJ, through the Appel Farm Artist-In-Residence Program. The students and I will be collaborating on an installation that will premier at the Vineland Public Library, and then tour to various other sites in New Jersey.

This residency will focus on students reactions to war both past and present. It will involve interviews with veterans from WWII and our current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Check back here for updates as this project progresses!

INFINITE THREAD - New Artist Book

Over the past few years, I have frequently collaborated with the artist Marie Elcin. Our most recent collaboration is an artist book titled Infinite Thread (see images above, click on image for larger version). It consists of screen prints and letterpress on shaped-deckle handmade paper, made from a combination of cotton and silk.

This collaboration was an exploration of processes, unified by a shared interest in water as a source of inspiration. By allowing process to take over, the authorship of the work becomes a third entity besides Marie and myself in the work itself.

Rocinante Press at Pyramid Atlantic Book Fair

This weekend I will be participating in the Pyramid Atlantic Book Arts Fair, in Silver Spring, MD. The fair is open from 10 AM - 5 PM, both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. In addition, The Migratory Books Project will be featured in "Context Is King," a talk by Mary Tasillo.

At the fair, I will be offering both older and more recent editions for sale. New editions that will be released at the fair include Unearthed, pictured here, and Infinite Thread, a collaboration between myself and Marie Elcin.

Women Helping Women off to Portland, OR

The Women Helping Women, Stitch by Stitch collaborative project is off to Portland, Oregon and will be on display in Portland's City Hall during the month of November.

Upcoming 2009 venues include exhibitions in St. Louis and Washington DC. Stay tuned for more information.

SIX WOMEN, SIX PERSPECTIVES Exhibition at Holy Family University Gallery

From October 5-29, 2008, I am part of the mixed media exhibition, SIX WOMEN, SIX PERSPECTIVES at the Holy Family University Gallery. The gallery is located in the lower level of the John M. Perzel Education Center, at 9801 Frankford Avenue in northeast Philadelphia. The opening reception is scheduled for 6-8 PM on October 13. All are invited and welcome to attend.

Also included in the exhibition are Jane Craven, Kathy Dobash, Bonnie Macallister, Meredith McDonald, and Sonia Sherrod. Thanks to Pamela Flynn for organizing this exhibition.

Update on The Information is Not Knowledge Project

The Bookverks 2008 Information is Not Knowledge Project, of which I am a participant, will be on view at the Grassroots Arts Facility (GRAF) from October 2-24, 2008. The GRAF is located at 143 Christopher Columbus Street in Jersey City. All are welcome to the opening, taking place on Thursday October 2, from 7-10 PM.

The exhibition will be on view during the Jersey City Studio Tours, October 4-5, 2008, from 12-6 PM.
